Hey guys, I'm new here, looking for some help with a headunit for my car.

I have a 88 Cutlass Supreme w-body. Looking for a new headunit. I need the following in my head unit.

-3 preouts atleast 4v
-AUX input for My Zen MP3
-HP/LP crossovers built into head unit for front/rear and sub output
-5+band EQ
-MP3 ability
-Lights up blue to match my interior(Would make an exception for the right deck.)
-Time Alignment would be nice, but not necessary

I am looking at the Alpine 9887 but I don't like the fact you need a device to make adjustments to the unit when it is expensive enough as it is.

Oh and I'm looking to spend under $400, and am willing to buy online if I need to.

the 9887 does everything you just mentioned without anything additional.

Seriously? I've read online that you need a tuning module(imprint module) to fully tune the EQ x-overs etc?

So you can fully tune the EQ/x-overs without the seperate module?

The 9887 is leading candidate...anything else similar to the 9887 out there that will sound just as good?

Or you could go with a Pioneer. I am running one I just got a couple of months back and I really like it. All the back light is blue (which I like because I am colorblind, and blue is one of the few colors that I can actually see). It has all of the features that you are looking for and is easy to navigate. I got mine on sale at Future Shop. I have read about people complaining of noise issues with Pioneer decks, however I believe that this is an installer problem and not necessarily an issue with Pioneer decks in general. These hu's are fused on the RCA ground internally in the hu which is designed to protect the board from permanent damage in the event of a short. If you even instantaneously short a speaker lead or RCA cable to ground it will blow this fuse and then the noise and other issues begin. I have seen several of them like this, and in all instances the person did know that they had blown the fuse or realize that this was the source of all their troubles. I did the same thing only days after installing the hu. I was playing around trying different sub wiring loads and touched a speaker lead to the top of the amp for just a split second, and poof. I repaired mine myself rather than taking it back only because I could, and that I have very little free time to work on my own stuff.

you said 5 band eq, the 9887 has a 7 band graphic and 5 band parametric and full xovers without the imprint, and also has the all blue option:



...I've owned a few pioneers and a few alpines, all were fairly equal (to me) except the 9887 I loved, the others were just decks (that includes the prs 880) there are other options, but you will not regret getting the 9887.

I just bought my 9887, the best deck ive ever owned lol.. the 24bit DAC is incredible..and it does have everythign you just mentioned and the local shop should be able to turn your imprint for you.. my understanding is you dont need anything extra for the imprint.. tuning aside, tho they may charge you for the tune, im not sure, but ya, the 9887 is the way to go..its well priced also.

It doesn't appear that Future shop carries any Pioneer higher than the 5900.

Mine is a 9800 but I don't see much on their website now either. Their was quite a few more models on there before Christmas. I think I bought mine back in September or October.
