For some reason I have noise in my system.
I don't know what has changed yet I'm now in the market of getting a noise filter.
I used to have one back in the day yet I don't know in today's market which one to use or get.

Does anyone use them?
This is engine/alternator noise that I want to remove so I don't hear it when I have my stereo on.

It's easy to add a ton of equipment yet it's most difficult to make a great sounding system with less.

I personally don't recommend using a filter as you will also be filtering out some audio frequencies. Start with your grounds.... make sure your connections are good and solid and clean.

Noise filters are only really a band-aid to mask a problem. I sometimes use them as a diagnostic tool to determine the source and cause of the noise but never leave them installed.

Yeah i know it's a band aid solution yet I"m hoping that someone has has some success with them.
I have not changed anything with my setup other than the amp.
Actually I have tried 2 amps and both seam to pick up the engine noise yet my original amp did not.

weird hopefully someone has used a filter at one time or another.

try grounding the rca's just to see if it does anything.
other than that, do like has already been said and remove, clean and reground your amp grounds. also, reground your deck to chassis instead of through the harness (if you havent done so already)

Try the Stinger Ground Loop Isolator. They work well, aren't too expensive, and seem to not affect the sound much. Usually a GLI affects the bass anyway so if this is on a highs amp it should be pretty transparent. Any FS will stock them.

Be careful what you wish for...

Isolators are not really filters... they are transformers that pass an AC audio signal but break the direct connection in the RCA that allows for the ground loop...

The problem with GLI's is that if the inductance of the windings is high you will filter out high frequencies..... and if the transformer is not large enough lower frequencies will be distorted (especially with high voltage preouts)


PAC makes a good isolator.... as well as Navone Engineering who makes an audiophile grade isolator with flat response from 20hz-20Khz with a maximum recommended preout voltage of 4v....
