This was seconded by the former sales manager for the only Visions car audio department that didn't suck (IMO). She said that a pair of 10s or single 12 in a nice compact box will sound just as good and get just as loud.

I would listen to a few options before buying.
And yes, I think Alpine nuked it because it didn't sell very well.
The whole idea behind the PLT-5 was to give you the output of two 10" woofers in a very small package, which I think it achieved quite nicely. Sure you can do similar configurations and get similar results, but I think you're missing the point. This was designed for people that want a simple solution without having to figure out which sub/amp/box combo is the best....they just want something that is simple to hook up, doesn't take up a lot of space, and gives great sounding bass.

Retails at Crutchfield for $700..Canadian.
Im into it at a local shop for just over $600..and a wiring kit..and whatever else free I can get..heh.

Speaking of the wiring kit..does it really make a difference, say going with a Alpine kit..versus a Stinger kit..or any other kind? They recommend 8 gauge for it as well.
