Alpine Enclosure Question

Looking at buying a Alpine PLT-5 LAT System..or PLT-7 to put in the cargo area of my Grand Cherokee.
Im looking for decent sound quality..over quantity, and being that I move alot of stuff around for work, I can't have my space taken up by a large enclosure.

Anyone have experience with these products?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

this is a great system if you need the room and to be able to take it out quickly. i havent heard it in an suv but i have in a single cab truck it sounded decent but you can notice quite a bit of port noice when it is right behind you with the plt 5 but in your case i dont think you would hear it as much. all in all a good system. it bosts 2 10 inch type s but i would say more like 1.

Yeah..I really like the looks of the system itself.
Very clean and simple.

One thing that bothers me a bit about it..is that I can't find it on Alpines website anymore. So, if they discontinued it/dropped it..why so?

I have installed a couple I was really impressed with them. Best sounding self-powered sub I've heard yet.

How are the controls for the amp?
Enough flexiblity to let you make adjustments and actually hear them?

My friend had a lat 7 in his car for a year .....it sounded great tons of low low bass and very linear yet aggresive.

You get a gain control & crossover....just like most amps.

I haven't heard one, but I have read a couple reviews that basically said you could do the same with a 12" sub in a 1 cube box and bolting the amp to the side.
This was seconded by the former sales manager for the only Visions car audio department that didn't suck (IMO). She said that a pair of 10s or single 12 in a nice compact box will sound just as good and get just as loud.

I would listen to a few options before buying.
And yes, I think Alpine nuked it because it didn't sell very well.

See..I was wondering the same thing.
In my last veichle I ran a single 12' Alpine Type-R in a compact box, powered with a MRP-M650, and the output was awesome.
I know I'm not going to get the same type of bass out of the plt-5, but I guess Im just looking for somthing a little similar.
