alright so last night on the ride home i turned on my head unit and there was a loud poping noise, it acutaly souned just like some one had thrown a snowball at my window, all my speakers were making the noise so when i got home i turned it on and took a look at my amps, the 4 channel infinity had the clip and power lights on and then they would turn off and then the amp would go into protect mode. when the amp turns back on the speakers pop. this repeats every coupple seconds. my mono amp continues to work as normal. i have one 4 gauge wire running from my battery to my trunk where it goes to a distribution block and then to the 2 amps. each amp is grounded on its own. i cant seem to find any wiring faults around the amps or my battery and i dont think it would be caused by the headunit but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

unhook all the speakers to that amp and see if it still does it, then one speaker at a time hook them back up until you find a problem, turn your system off for each of these steps though, hotswapping isnt great......its a start

ok with all speakers and RCA wires removed from the amp it continues to act the same.

i had forgotten to add some possibly important information. when the power and clip lights are on the amp still puts out music for the second or so before turning off again. to me its acting like its shorting out some where inside the amp but i dont have much of any experience inside of one.

with no experience inside an amp I'd say get some of that canned air stuff they use to clean electronics and open the amp and give a squirt in there.
could be a stray wire fell in there while you were stripping the wires or something.

I had the same problem with an alpine V12. When I pulled it apart I found a blown diode inside, soldered in a new one andshe was good as new.

did you get your new one from the alpine company or is this a general part that could be bought at say radioshack?

I actually tore apart an old blown deck, and un-soldered a diode from it (size doesn't really matter). Almost every piece of electronics has a diode somewhere.
But yes it is something you should be able to pick up at radioshack.
You should open up your amp and take a look. The diode that I repaired on mine didn't really look "blown" more like the top half had broken off. I just cut it out leaving as much of the wire ends as possible and soldered on a new diode in the same direction. Be sure to note the side the white line is on.
