He doesn't want to return it - just exchange it. It won't affect the original salesperson's commissions unless the CSR deliberately changes it - and then the salesperson finds out almost immediately and kills the CSR
You get a little more hassel on returns than exchanges but you need to see it from the company's point of view too: they now have a used product they have to sell again at a discount while the cost did not change.
Why do you suspect it is blown - just because it smelled? Woofers may do that the first few times you really run them hard. Since you have a DVC I would connect each coil individually to your amp and run the woofer at HALF or lower power just to make sure it works. If both coils make sound, and you are not getting any weird mechanical rubbing noises, the sub is fine.
