Ok, what's the big deal on installing an amp/sub?
I mean, I put my amp/sub together and I didn't
have a wire cutter or crimper. And all manuals
show you how to wire the stuff together.

I used a plier to cut the insulation off, and
I just used the plier again to crimp the spades
and other sh*t.

As for my 4/8gauge AMP wire? I used my kitchen
knife to cut the insulation.

I would say the hardest sh*t about all this would
be box design and stuff.

Comments?

Wow... $500 eh???

what was involved with the amps?? Did they have to run wiring or build amp racks???

Installing that stuff with a simple mounting board and running wiring would take like what.... 3hours ????

Hmm... 500 dollars at a 8dollar an hour job (gross) would traslate to about 81 hours of work.... or 2 full time work weeks...

Hahaha... no wonder I do all my own install (and mechanic) work on my car...

ID subs only have spade clips because they're cutting costs. A sub doesn't need an aluminum basket or chromed this and that. They're simple subs that only do what subs are supposed to do.

PS: I soldered every speaker I have ever installed and have never had a single problem. I have even dripped solder on the backs of the foam surrounds ... no damage (that was a surprise to me actually)

pretty hard to keep a shop afloat charging $8 an hr... there is overhead that nobody thinks about.

hmmmmm most shops charge 50 dollars an hour not 8 ..........wouldn't be in business long if they charged 8 ..........hell I doubt they'd find anybody to work for them if they only paid 8...

8 dollars an hour get real .........when's the last time you had any profesional work done of any type (carpentry, electrical, mechanical, ect...) , I sure it was no where near 8 dollars an hour

on that note on does expect a proper job be done when paying for profesional work .........hell that's why you bring it there in the first place........

Just two amps and two subs into a box that was allready there? No Cap, No custom work? What kind of wiring did they use for the rest of the install(power, ground, rca's,distrubution block, battery terminals etc...)?
If the rest of the install was as bad as the subs, you got screwed. But for $500 you'd think they would have done a reasonable job somewhere.

Uh ya... I hear what you are saying orion and dodge... but in this case, things are a little rediculous...

I can't see that job taking a 'professional' more then 4hours.. that would work out to something like $100/hr with $100 of materials...

Get real...

At what point is it worth while for someone to just have a proffesional do the job???
Even if it took me, personally, 20X as long to do the same job, I'd still be ahead, probably by a long shot...

Relativly speaking, most of the mecanical work I do on my car takes me 2x as long as it would take a professional.... For me, am still ahead doing it myself...

This is especially considering I've been screwed a few times before for work that didn't need to be done.... or shoddy work... and that is certainly not an uncommon thing....

^ You are fortunate in that you have the most precious commodity of all: Time.

Some people have so little time that while they may be able to do a project they may never be able to get to it. It's too bad.
