I have an Alpine 9813 and I am trying to figure out how to use the damn crossover. I have the manual, but there is just so many settings and I dont know what is for what. I have a component set in the front with a passive crossover. In the back I have a set of 6.5" mid bass (no tweeter) and in the trunk I have a 10" sub. How do I set this thing?

What amps are you using? I believe the 9815 is pretty much identical to the 9835 of this year. If so I can talk you through it.

Basically hold down the x-over button

You can now scroll through front/rear/sub

Width - 0 to 4 means the slope whih I think is 6, 12, 18, 24

There is slope...what does that mean...the sharpness of the bass? The thing is that I dont know how to set up these thing because I dont know what they mean. There are 4 slope settings...what is a slope? THen there is something that lets you chose between 12 and 0? And then the cut off frequency...between like 20 and 200. Can someone give me a breakdown?

Slope is how quickly the frequency dropps off. For example. If you had a low pass x/over set at 100hz. 24db would cut down everything above 100hz by 24db per octive, whereas 6db would cut it down less.

Steeper slope = faster cutoff.

For a subwoofer application 80hz at 24db would porbably suffice depending on how the rest of your system is setup.

I think 0-4, 0=off, 1=6db, 2=12, 3=18, 4=24, but im not positive as its been a while since ive used that deck.

that sounds about right...from what I have read in the manual. I think I am getting it now. I need to go and try it out. So how would you set up the front and rear speakers? The front have their own passive crossover, so would you set it to 0?
