| Hey guys, I'm running a Hifonics Brutus Bxi 2006D amp and I'm pushing a DD9515. I got the sub second hand and from what I was told when I bought it, it, it was dual 2 ohm. I've got it wired up in parallel to the amp for a 1 ohm load.
When I crank the volume up, the amp goes into protection. It seems just as the sub starts to really excurt is when the amp cuts out. I shut the deck off and turn it back on (cycle the amp) and the amp works again at a lower volume.
I have 0 gauge pos and neg as well as a strong ground.
Gains on the amp are set at a moderate level to blend with the mids/highs and is turned up about half way (4.5V). I'm running an eclipse 7100 with 8V preouts and when I set the gain on the amp to match (according to the dial label on the amp) I get almost no bass.
Any ideas?

| Its possible. Lights dim, but nothing horrible. 90A factory alternator with no big 3. Factory battery.

| When did your amp start doing that? No refund on the sub! JJ
Are you getting rid of your Kicker components now for the Pines?

| low voltage could throw it into protect... either because of the low voltage directly or because of excessive clipping when the voltage is dropping.. something could be shorting out somewhere... I'd say to make sure the tinsel leads arn't shorting out on eachother or the basket, but if it's a DD it shouldn't have any that can short out.. if the coil is scraping inside the gap that could cause it to short..
otherwise, it sounds like the amp just dosen't like the load the sub is giving it.. check the resistance of the coils with a DMM to be sure what they are... if they are 2ohms each they should give a DCR around 1.5 ohms...

| The amp has only had issues since I threw it in my new car. I doubled checked all the connections for the amp and they are all good. I doubled checked the ground, and it is solid.
I didn't have any kicker comps. I had a pair of Kenwood Excelon's in the Matrix. I let those go with the car since I didn't want to rip the doors apart to pull them (plus they were surface mounted and it would have left 2 screw holes).
I still have another set up the Kenwoods brand new in the box. Free for you brother (Strokin) if you want them. They are x1700P if you want to look them up.
Thanks for the input Haunz. I will pull the sub again tomorrow and double check the leads and find a DMM to check the resistance.
