Ok here's the question i will bring on for discussion. Sunday i will be doing a wheel well box int he trunk of my 2000 grand am. The floor will be raised roughly 2-3 inches with an amp rack at the back of the trunk by the seats-I am used to loud/low boxes in the past. The subs where previously in about a 4 cubic ft slot ported box in an suv- so again the question is should i run 2 12's in a sealed box running roughly 1600rms to them- or 1 12 in a ported box running roughly 1000rms to it?? I am not exactly sure of what kind of volume we can get out of this install yet.

thanks

I had an Alpha 12" running ported at 2 cubes, 42Hz on 800 rms in the truck of my old grand am, got plenty loud for my likeing. I prefer how ported boxes sound to sealed though.

Ported can give you more output per driver. But by the looks of things you will have more power and more cone area by going sealed. I would do sealed in a heart beat. Are you building the box yourself? There are a few guys on here that can build a good box.

1 15 inch Type R on 1000 rms will get you nice and low tuned to 35 hz

What does that have to do with the question.

Your car will have all the bass it needs providing your box is built right. Who is building it. What shop?

Well, I have 2-type r 12's in my 300M sealed in approx. 1.7 cubes total, plus 2 lbs of fibre fill. It's powered by a 1200 watt Hifonics brutus at 1ohm. It gets plenty loud and plays very clean, tight bass. Even in a big car like mine, it's easy to overwhelm the other speakers. Settings are "0" for bass boost, -6 db on my pxah-701, and gain is at 1/2. There's no eq boost for any sub frequencies, and it plays more than low enough to rattle everything...I usually test for low bass with "tocatta D-minor", and it plays the lowest organ tones with lots of output. This set up plays everything really well, and leaves space for real world needs.

ok I think you're in very good hands. I don't know Fozz personally, but he seems to know his stuff, and has a lot of respect from other members based on what I can see on this board.

^^^^Well thanks!

The box should be done by this weekend. It's a little taller then originally planned, but still not too bad. If I could figure out how to post pics I would put some up.
