IMHO, if you can get a high quality cap for CHEAP, then it's worth it. Obviously no one in SPL uses caps (maybe just noobs) but for a regular everyday ride that bumps, a good cap will help for sure. Obviously it's not worth spending too much money on one. But like I said, if you come across a good deal, it's definately worth it.
The big 3 is more for the audio enthusiasts IMO.

can you tell us what a good cap consists of? what distingushes it from a bad cap? Caps are all the same, but i'd still like to hear your explanation.

some have a faster discharge and recharge depending on the matterial used to create the cap

Fact is that there are only maybe one or two factories in the WORLD that make capacitors over 0.5 farad.... From my perspective you'll have to explain why an external cap helps when the amps that are being used have their own on board capacitance already. It's just another drain on your battery.

I was fairly sure that caps over 0.5 farads were not a single cap, but a bank of caps in parallel. (parallel caps are like resistors in series. ie. capacitance adds)

AFAIK all caps used as the way we use them in car audio would have the same discharge time (close enough) Think of RC (resistor capacitance) is the charge discharge time. (resistance being none)

It's easy to add a ton of equipment yet it's most difficult to make a great sounding system with less.
