Budget system - thoughts?

Hi there,

I am looking to upgrade my sound system on my JDM Toyota Levin, and this is what I have been looking at:

Pioneer (Premier) DEH-P400UB (Head Unit)
Pioneer (Premier) TS-A632P (6-1/2" 3-Way Speaker)
AUDIOBAHN DUB8AT 8" Sub with amp

I was thinking I would have the 2 front speakers powered by the head unit since each speaker sucks up 35 RMS and then the sub has its own amp.

Attached is a picture of the current speakers, I think they are 6-1/2", please correct me if I am wrong.

Also I chose this head unit because of the rear USB input, if you are to suggest any others, please keep this in mind.

I am aware the bass is not going to be crazy from the sub but it will fill in the lows, will the front speakers be able to cover the mids and highs?

Is this a possible budget system and do you guys have any suggestions as to improve it?

Thanks very much,

Charles

Who will be performing the install?

If you are selecting a deck based on USB input, I would advise finding a local dealer where you can try a demo deck with your storage source first to confirm compatibility and to see whether you like the user interface.

BTW what year/color is your Levin? I bet I've seen you driving around the Burnaby/Coquitlam area. Neat car.

I am going to try to perform the install myself with the help of a few knowledgeable friends.

I have tried it out already and I'm sure it will be fine with my USB stick.

Also do you think it could be a problem with the harness since my model is not in North America?

It's a 1992 Black Toyota Corolla Levin GT Apex

When I price all 3 up + shipping on eBay, I am getting just under $250, so I would not want to go much more than that if I had to.

well the audiobahn in my opinion is just wasting money, if you want to stay at a price that low then ditch the sub for now. The deck seems pretty good and im sure the speakers are fine. but if you buy that sub you'll likely be siting around wish it was better then it'll blow up and you wasted your money. So I would personally stay away from it.

Ok I can definitely understand that to a point, but it seems, once reading through the reviews (most seem to say the same sort of thing), that it isn't that bad for the money.

Are there any other budget subs on the market that you would suggest (under $100 with amp)?

i agree that for the money its a steal, and you wont find anything else priced like that. My biggest concern is life span, they use the cheapest driver possible in these things as well as components for the amp. I wouldnt expect it to live to long, but then again it may its hard to tell I just know that being used by me personally it would more then likely be dead in a month or two. but if you can stick to not turning it up to much then it should offer what you are looking for, at least for a short time anyway.

I'm going to have to agree with Jo-psyko an 8" powered audiobahn sub is just a waist of money unless you installing it in the kick well.

I would buy the head unit you need for your USB connectivity and take the rest of your money and invest in front speakers with dynamatt or if your front speakers can last a bit longer I would add a larger/higher power sub and put a low pass filter on the front speakers (you might want to add that to your head unit spec) or you can add a coil to each speaker.

The sub option is the one that will make the most difference and then save up for the front speakers it’s entirely down to your current system.
