i have a lot of friends who are all into car systems so ive heard quite a few and all the cars with only one 12 dont seem to hit as hard, it may be able to keep up decently volume wise but i find none of the had the feel that 2x12s did which is one of the main reasons for getting a system.

usually yes and sometimes its the other way around, they say it will fit and then it doesnt, just get the right size as in 4x6 then when you get them if they dont fit, make them fit there usualy isnt all that much for mods involved.

as for the two vs one, i run one ten and it will beat pretty much any car with two run of the mill 12's using the same power, mind you the box has alot to do with it, but i switched from a good 12 to a really really good 10 and the ten murders what i used to run, even if its running on less power. More often then not i compete again cars with 2 12s using the same or more power then me and its not often i get beat.

I can make a single sound spliter 8" hit harder harder then a pair of RockfordFosgate punch 15".It is all in the design of the sub and box that makes or breaks a system

hes right 70% of the bass equation is the box, what you probably experience is people with pre fab boxes in which case yes the 2 will feel better not to mention you have mroe cone area, if you want to just buy a box then by all means get 2 subs but if you are willing to build or av a good one built then even your 1 sub could very well be making your 2 sub friends drool ts all about the amount of hands on time you want to spend.

second that!

another pointer is go with good used stuff and save a bit of cash you get more then what you pay for most times. As for a deck I would get something local as you can try before you buy. This is the thing that can bother someone the most in a system is a deck they don`t like. With a sub like me and Jo-Psyko sugested you can`t go wrong.Take for example my 15" above I had it made for me for close to $2000 and turns out i can`t use it I was only able to test on a sound board with 400watts so now I have to drop it for $400 just to recoupe some cash. This is the type of deals you find going used.
As for speakers I could go thru a good many for you in the price range I said that you would be more then happy with.
Amps just get something nice to run the gear you have decided on
