Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to car audio. I understand the general mechanics of it (RMS, resistance, speaker types, etc.). I'm looking at investing in a new system. I've decided to focus around Pioneer components. As of right now, I have a 12" Pioneer sub (800max, 400 RMS). I'm looking for 6.5"s for the front, 6x9"s in the back, with a nominal wattage of around 200 combined. I'm also in the dark as to what kind of amps I'll be looking for to power the speakers and sub respectively. I also am looking at a head unit, 4x50 watts, 22RMS or higher.

My main question really is the amount of power i'm going to need from amps and head unit in order to power the components respectively. Also, I'm debating if I should get tweaters or not for better highs...and if so, what that might involve.

If you guys have any suggestions, your help would be greatly appreciated!! I'm not aiming for an overkill system, just something that sounds great and has a respectable amount of power. money is no issue, so throw out your suggestions!!

dont by the 6.5 2 ways, save your self the trouble of having to do things twice and just get a component set off the bat. then once you have everything by two amps, one for the sub and one for the speakers, also depending on what you drive you could probably just skip the 6x9's for the rear.

head unit power sucks you may not want to use the amp in a deck.they never sound good at a level you can hear on the road.

Pioneer has 6.5 4-ways, with a 50 rms wattage per speaker...for fronts, thats perfect for me...they answer my question about tweaters etc... cause they come with built in tweaters. I just want a deck with decent wattage so that when i feed it into a 4 channel amp, its not struggling...unless i'm wrong, will pre-amp wattage make a difference? Also, i'm assuming i should power the speakers with amps equal to their rms wattage correct? Let me know if i'm mistaken about anything.

if the 6.5`s are fine for you by all means go for it but get a small nice 50x2 amp and you will be way ahead.

Preamp wattage there is no such thing.Preamp voltage now thats where ther gold is.higer the better.My decks all have 8volt outs.

IMO the more 'ways' a speaker has the worse it sounds. i have three way 6x9 alpines in my back doors to help for the time being... and i cut the wires to the 'third way' hahahah seriously the more one speaker tries to do the less effective it becomes at doing any one thing.

the wattage of the deck doesnt mean crap when you are using amps... its all about pre out voltage like DD said... the higher the better...
