I was wondering what would be a decent(not the best...or expensive) 12" sub for tight bass, I already have a kenwood, I just purchased a dual sealed box.I'm more into the harder rock and hardstyle and don't mind not being able to hit the extreme lows. Would it be stubid of me to throw the kenwood in with whatever you guys suggest?

well if you have the box and the Kenwoods, then at least try it. If it sounds good, you're ready to go. What's the volume of the box? Is it a prefab? if so which brand, model, etc...

actually I have only one kenwood, I was wondering if I should buy 2 of the same kind or is alright to mix and match.if so what to buy?
The box is a sealed "bass slammer"
I'll start looking for specs.

no mixing! once you have the specs, we can tell if the Kenwoods are good to go.

Don't mix subs no matter what. Are those individually sealed chambers on the box? If they are you could just run the one sub for now. What model of Kenwood do you have? If you don't like the sound, building a ported box to spec might be a cheaper alternative than just buying another Kenwood.

Definitely go ported with the suggested volume recommended from the manufacturer. You may be very suprised at what your sub can do.

Given what you have; an amp rated for 300 watts into a bridged 4ohm channel, an older Sub that is 8ohms, free air style, and rated for 175 watts, and a dual 1cube sealed box. You have a lot of mismatched equipment. If the box is separately sealed, you can try the sub in one chamber and decide if you like it. If you do, and you can find another one exactly the same, then you can wire them parallel and run both off the bridged amp...good match at least as far as power is concerned. 1 cube sealed is generally good for a 10" older sub, and most newer 12" subs. The good news is that the box will work with most new 12" subs. The bad news is that you only have 300 watts to feed them. If it was me, and I wanted the least expensive route. I'd try to return the box, get a ported single enclosure that's about 1.25-1.4 cubic feet, tuned to about 35 hz, . I'd then try the kenwood sub and decide if it sounds good, and is loud enough. If not, then I'd get a 300 watt rms, good brand name subwoofer that works well in that ported box (most newer ones will), and enjoy.
