Hi everyone,

I'm new here, and wanted to get some advise.

My Mazda has the stock Bose system, and don't cringe, I want to keep it. It sounds pretty good except it is missing the deep bass (even with the factory sub woofer).

I found a place called Wicked C.A.S. that makes a sealed fiberglass box, that tucks nicely away in the corner of my trunk.

He gives a couple of options:

JL 12W1v2
JL 12W3v3
JL 12W6v2

I was thinking of getting the 12W3v3 but wanted to know if I would get more bang for my buck moving up to the 12W6v2?

The guy recommended running a JL Slash2 500/1v2 amp to drive the system.

No, I guess not - but I though I would let the guy that designed the box use the stuff he recommends for his enclosure.

The sealed enclosure is quite small at .85 CU ft.

Do you think I would be better off buying the enclosure and fitting it was a sub and amp in Canada?

Depending on the cost, why not just get a fibreglass box built like that for your vehicle? They they could match the colour carpet and it won't stand out as much....?

if you will be getting the "wicked" one, then I suggest you get it with the driver they recommend. We say this all the time, the box(enclosure) is just as, if not more important than the driver itself. I would imagine that the company has researched and tried a number of drivers for the enclosure or has specifically designed that one for the JL subs. Given that this isn't an spl application, and JL does make good products, there's no reason not to get it with the sub they recommend. Otherwise, you're gambling with performance as any other sub may not work as well in the enclosure.

I don't know anyone that custom fabricates fiberglass boxes - but my thinking is that it would be expensive to get a one of - probably much more than just getting the "Wicked" one.

Veeman - thank you for your feedback. The enclosure is quite small at .85 CU ft - so it will not be the most efficient enclosure, but with a long excursion W6 and enough wattage, should that compensate for that somewhat. I appreciate your feedback. He is expensive, but he is the only guy I have been able to find that makes an enclosure that will still allow me to use the pass throughs in the seats, and manage my family's requirements with 3 kids. A trunk is important to me.

I completely understand, being a 40 year old that needs trunk space as well. The w6 should give you plenty of bass if powered to it's potential. For comparison, I have 2-alpine type r 12's in .85 cubes each, sealed, and with 500 watts each, they get very loud. Not Spl competition loud, but loud enough to hear from down the block if I choose, and enough to make the mirrors useless. I expect that the w6 with 400-500 watts will be more than enough for music.

Do you think I would need any polyfill in the box to compensate for the small enclosure space?

I'm going to get my stuff ordered with my next paycheque.

Do you think I would need a capacitor with the Slash2 500/1v2 amp and the rest being stock Bose setup?

I would run new wire and not use the existing wire for the bose system to run your subs. I don't think you'll need a cap.
