Hey there,

Come September i'm going to be getting a 2007 Ford Fusion, my first "real" car. I've been driving beaters my whole life because i was too cheap to save up the cash to pay for a car. But anywho, I would like to learn a bit more about Car Audio and apply that knowledge into my new system. My first worry is if i'm going to rattle my new car apart. So what is the best way to make sure i can keep the new car stiffness, should I be installing Dynamat throughout my vehicle?

Most importantly I want to make sure I have the right gear to do the job. In my trunk I am currently running 2 X JL Audio 10W3v3-8 subwoofers. They are in a Bassworx Dual 10" box from best buy. Powering them i have an Alpine MRD-M1005 it is wired in series (This was done to match resistance). Do these items work together in harmony, or is their something i could change to match it up better to get even better bang? In my new car what would be the advantages of getting a box professionally built, how much would it cost, would it be worth it? I went to F/X audio a few years ago looking to get a custom box built and they wanted about 500$ for it. That's a little pricey.

Now for Speakers. I'm looking at purchasing a JL Audio 300/4 Amplifier. I Currently own 4 X JL Audio TR570Cxi, now if these are still good i will use them. But i have a feeling something is wrong with them. When i turn my subs off so I can only strictly hear the speakers, the bass cracks. I'm not sure if this is because they are blown, or if their is a shortage of power (My wiring cost 8$ at princess auto, and this entire system is being powered of it, i think it's 12 guage). Any ideas on how i could test these out? Or recommendation on a new pair of speakers? I don't want a component set, i want it to be all in one.

As for wiring, it is most definately going to be replaced. 0/2 guage in-line fused to the distrobution block, split into 4 guage wires to the amps.

Please advise any recommendations you may have to help me upgrade my system. I usually am the one who pops the trunk at parties and plays music for a few hours straight, so I need it to pound!!

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

well for speakers components are still your best bet but since you dont want to use them well you can look at the convertible components from coax to comp. cause maybe in the future you will want a change but thats up to you

by the way are you using an amp for your speakers curently ????? also your bass on the speakers crack prob cause your bass is set to high or your just running off the deck cheap built in amp.

If you want a set of coax's for a ford.. look at the JL c5s.. they are the same as the components.. use the same cross over and evething..

Currently my speakers are being driven off an Infinity 7541a i believe it's called. I think that amp blew my speakers but i'm not sure.

Edit:

My subs are actually the 10W3V3-2 model, not 8.

The JL audio C5's have tweeter's seperate from the midrange. Is that gonna be difficult to install, the reason i want it all in one is i don't wanna have to put tweeters sticking up outta nowhere.

The c5's come in compnents or coax's..The reason I am recommending them is because they are the same quality.. Usually when you buy a Coax set they are cheaper because its easier for the manufacturer to produce them, and they dont generally use as good cross overs.. I just installed the 5x7 coax c5's in my mercury cougar and they sound awesome

O ok i see how that works. Where do you mount the crossover, and how do they work anyway? I would like to stick with JL Audio if possible, but i would still like to know if the speakers I have are shot or not. Can I go into a car audio store and get them bench tested or something?
