Great news!!! I think I caused my self some serious organ and ear damage!!! lol

So I tried my mp3 player at 3/4 volume and the sub was super quiet! even with the gain turned up almost all the way...now, my amp has a switch for the input voltage 0.1-1V setting and a 1-8v setting. Previously the switch was set up to 1-8v setting when running from the LOC (the loc also has a voltage knob that was turned up all the way)...So I think the amp was getting way to high of a signal causing it to go into protection when the big notes would hit.

back to the mp3 player...once I switched it to the 0.1-1V setting and turned up the gain to the default 0, it was hitting nice, tried mroe and more gain everything held up...it only actually went into protection when the gain was maxed out...

So here's what I did...connect back to the LOC (with its gain setting completely off, I wasnt getting any sound), left the switch to the 0.1-1V setting and then I set the gain at the amp to zero and then I turned up the voltage on the LOC until the sub was hitting good...then I started increasing the gain on the amp until it went into protection...then I turned it a bit down to 1/4 past 0...and its hitting amazing no distortion played for almost 30 minutes until I decided that it was enough and it wasnt going to cut off...

used some bass heaving songs that jumped around from different hz...
