| Keep in mind, the CDT ES-690 is a woofer-only. Maybe even subwoofer...

| I wasn't inform they were only a woofer, in that case with CDT there's only CL-69x that I can pick, I would like to go with at least 2 ways. JBL are not the same as infinity ?

| Any reason why you insist keeping the 6X9 format ?
Making an adapter ring to go from 6X9 to 6½ is very easy to do and your choice increases dramaticaly for SQ speakers.

Are you running the 6x9s at rear? That JL has 75 watts a side for rear channels if I remember correctly. Remind me if you have undated your front speakers. Did you get ES-610 from Ross, or something, cause fronts are a million times more important, if you're looking to upgrade the cabin sound. Then think about the rear, and I just assumed, you have that nice CDT set, and now you want to match up the rear.

| Well, at the front i`m running my infinity kappa perfect 6.1 at 75 watts rms with my 450/4 I configure my system that way because I was told that 693.7 need more output to perform well so I tried to give them at least 100 w and the first thing I know is there were making bad sound. I would like to change them because it`s for now the weakest link in my setup, so when I put some volume they`re the first to distort.
For the adapter, I haven`t thought about it, do you think I could do this without having to modified my rear deck, I don`t want to show to everyone that I got aftermarket speaker.
If I put some 6.5 in the rear, should I take a better component kit for the front and then I will put my perfect in the rear ? but have you any idea where I should put those tweeter in the rear ? |

| Someone is a real dumbass telling you that you need a lot of power for the rear. You should have the best set in the front, and feeding them the most power. If you are upgrading the rear before the front, that is pretty unsmart, unless you're not happy with your sound, but most of the sound comes from the front, so you need to work on your fronts if you need better sound, then worry about the rear, and those rears will work fine with 75watts. Bothers me when people give advice without looking at the big picture.
So my advice is to get CDT ES-610 from Ross if you need 6.5" speakers, and feed them 150 a side from JL, and then get the CDT CL-69x, and fit them directly instead of the Infinity. It seems you will be running rears with a little more output then usually required for rear fill, so in your case I would suggest getting the CDT rears as well, cause it not a good idea to mix brands for rear and front, cause if the difference of timbre sound between brands. And get all CDT's with soft dome tweeters. Also, look for the normal(without upgrade) ES-610 which comes with DRT-25 tweeters, and 480 crossover. DO NOT get the DRT-26, cause sensitivity between woofer and tweeters won't match very well. I think the set is around $340 plus shipping through Ross from Quebec if he still has them on sale, so you will save on duties and shipping. Retail on this set is like $800.
And as far as distortion is concerned, it is probably the tuning that needs work, not equipment. Try tuning properly what you have now, and you will be surprised what you can achieve, if you know what you're doing, you may not need to upgrade to CDT. If you have subs, then they are probably crossed at 80hz or lower and down, then make sure the cabin speakers do not play anything lower then 70-80hz, and you may want to lower the gain on the amp for the rear speakers, and change over to 150w for the front, and 75 for the rear.

| well, I think what I will do is buy a pair of 6.5 (coaxial) to put in the rear then when time will come I will upgrade my front stage (for now I'm fully happy with these).
I've set my rear to play as good as they can but I fell lacks between front and rear, rears' sound always higher, but not higher in good way, it's aggresive; for the high note and even the mid note there's always a non-fun ending sound coming from them. And they played like this from the start, plug on my soundstream amp they were making the same thing too. So it's why I would like to upgrade them.
I like CDT, but are they as good as everybody pretends to be. Is there better price/quality model than them because I would like to go with something alse than CDT if it's possible, if it's 100 $ more just to be different than I would take them. I would like to have something more original :P
How much power does a front stage should have usualy vs the rear stage ? |
