I've been to a few local shops in Niagara, and I haven't found a car audio shop that carries active crossovers that would be suitable for running components . . . is active becoming passe?
I'm not even looking for anything all that fancy, just an analog 2 channel in 4 (or 6) out with the high pass tweeter, high & low pass mid (x2 if its a 6 channel out) . . .
I've been looking at the Sony XEC 1000 crossover.... it's old but if you can find one works well. 3pairs in 5 pairs out. Controls front mid and tweet, rear mid and tweet, plus sub. It's pretty cheap too.
Audio Control makes a great crossover that would work for this application or even with the proper choice of amplifier (preferably not the sweatshop variety either) would allow you to go active with relative ease.
The problem is seperate analogue xovers are things of the past.
Everyone now uses digital ones, a lot of receivers now come with them, there are processors dedicated for this like the RF rsitxy.2 or the audison bitone.
And of course some amps now have DSP or simply xovers that go to around 5khz and some have BP capabilities as well....
I have an audio control 2xs that I can give you for $150.00 brand new in the box, 5 year warranty and Audio Control's awesome quality (it's still made in the States)!
Looks interesting Keith. A few questions about it:
1) When setting the frequency, is it automatically the same frequency cut off for both HP and LP?
2) Do you have additional crossover modules? - I was thinking of something like 3500hz or would I have to build my own?
3) Are you coming this way again in September?
Sweet!
So I could HP ch 1 & 2 anywhere between 3.5kHz - 5kHz (Depending on what my tweeters like)
Then I could LP ch 3 & 4 anywhere between 3.5kHz - 5kHz (Depending on what sounds best with the tweeters
Then I could set the subsonic filter somewhere between 80-150Hz so protect the mids from over-drive . . .
What's the Price tag?
