In my grand prix my two kicker cvrs were perfect, but with my newer..and smaller impreza I think my subs are a big much. What should I be looking at? Im looking for clean, defined bass that hits hard. Moneys a bit tight for aftermarket stuff so Im not looking to spend more than a few hundred dollars.

I was looking to get maybe a single 12, around 400-500rms....

what does the RMS rating have to do with sound quality or output?. It's a thermal dissipation rating. not an output rating. for subwoofer reccomendations you'll get more opinions than there are letters in a book. the right answer is listen with your ears.. find out your goal..how do you like your music, how loud you want it, What kind of music do you mostly listen to..what's your budget?

I don't understand what's too much about 2 cvrs, or 3 or 4...you can always turn them down. If you like their sound, you don't have a space issue, and money is a factor... Why not use them??

It is funny what some people think going SQ means.

Anyway, I cast another vote for keeping the subs you already have.

I think the term SQ(sound quality) is a little vague. It can mean very different things to different listeners. My feeling is that SQ, in terms of an audio reproduction system, should denote systems that can realistically reproduce the artist's final creation as it's stored on the media. If that artist created a piece with heavy bass and very bright highs, then your SQ system needs to be able to reproduce that, and I'm not just talking about a hip hop track or some pop tune. Many orchestral pieces have pipe organs, and kettle drums that can get very loud and very deep. If you have a single 8" sub, that might have some trouble realistically reproducing the frequencies and the relative amplitude necessary to convey the music. Similarly, a system with 6 x 18's, 2 piezo tweeters and 10 KW of power may have some trouble supressing the bass enough to enable the subtle brushes on a snare drum or the delicate textures of a flute to be realized. My point is that a good SQ system should sound good with pretty much everything it plays. In the OP's scenario, one 12 or two 10's won't make or break an SQ system. If you do like them though, you're already ahead, noe just make the rest of the system balanced and sound good.

Okay so this went nowere. Im going to re explain why I want to change this. First of all, I must have over 100 pounds of stuff in my trunk. The big bulky subs are taking up to much weight and space. Second, they dont sound nice in my car. The car is too small, why would I keep two rocks in my trunk when I can have 1?

Im thinking maybe some shallow mounts might be better for me..but what kind of sound quality do they produce? I dont want to keep my current subs, I want 1, and I want it to be a better quality than the ones I have. thanks.
