one-seat active setup...

i'm looking for some advice on my setup... i'm changing over from my passive setup to active... what i'm looking to do is have a set of tweeters in the a-pillar at eye level aimed towards the driver seat and have a set of mids in the door panels...

here comes the part where i need some advice...

1) will having the tweeters aimed directly at me be a terrible idea? i know it should sound good once t/a is used, but will it not have as good a soundstage as if i crossfired the tweeters along the contour of the windshield? i'm only looking for a one seat setup...

2) i'm currently looking at a few different h/u's... a pioneer 880prs or a used 860mp... will both units do a 2-way active front and sub while being able to control the time alignment for each channel?

3) what tweeters should i get that'll play low enough to get the soundstage high (vocals all coming from above the dash)? will i have to get a chambered tweeter? i'm looking at a set of pioneer prs series components to do this... however the mid says it is tuned for kickpanels (0.175 cu ft)... will the mid play a bit sloppy if i just using them ib in the doors?

4) is it not worth it to switch over if i'm satisfied with my current setup: cdt hd braxial fronts with the upstage module (the tweeters crossfiring on the a-pillars) and no time alignment... the problem is i know i can get better, since i started playing with time alignment in my winter car... and the downfall of the upstage system that i can hear is that the vocals go up and down on the soundstage all the time...

sorry for the format of the post... thanks in advance for any replys...

I've actully heard a few one seat cars that sounded really nice with the tweets on axis to the drivers seat. But if your feeding your tweets lots of power I wouldn't suggest using a really low x/over frequency. I used tweets as low as 800hz in my pillars, but I wouldn't recomend it (even it you have a unit with a low Fs).

If you have the ability, give you mids a cabinet of some kind. You will generally get better midbass response compared to IB. I've found that in cars with speaker placements like you plan to do, you generally get a decent sound stage height, but the stage will probably drop on the drivers side when lower notes are being played (like a male voice).

That's just my opinion

there really is no right and wrong here, your on the right track with going active as it lets you have lots of flexibility. the issue you said you have with the stage going up and down with the lower frequncies happens in 95 percent of all the cars i judge, there are lots of reasons for it, floorpan resonance and unbalanced frequncy response between the left and right front speakers by the time everything hits your ears. the best advice i could give is to not ruch and experiment with different crossover points and slopes. my gut tells me you will end up with a crossover point between 4-6 k but i may be wrong. i have had great luck as low as 2.5k with door/floor moubnted mids and pillar tweeters, i doubt you will have any luck lower than that
