has anyone here tried running a small (3" or so) full range driver, with a midbass and sub to bring in the bottom end? I'm trying that now, and it is giving me a really nice stage, and very coherent compared to breaking up the vocal range between 2 drivers.
I'm crossing the full range at around 200 Hz, with the midbass playing up to about there as well, so far, I'm loving it.
I have found that a 3inch alone doesn't (granted I have only tried one) quite do great up top by itself, it needs a tweet to help around 8 to 10k and up. I think that is usually the concencess as well.
In any case it is talked about a lot over on DIYMO.
I"m using the fostex ff85k, it extends pretty flat to 40khz... it actually needs the 10k+ range brought down a little.
I'm very familiar with the DIYMA discussion... I started one of them, but it hasn't been discussed here really, so why not have a good talk about an interesting topic?
my setup looks like chit right now... speakers sitting inside foam blocks doesn't make for nice pics, but as soon as I can get a decent install started, I'll post some pics
