| I had my system done within the year and been having issues with the sound quality. I was told by many people that the items I purchased were pretty good and that quality shoudn't be an issue. I notice when I crank up Metallica, Korn or any song that deals with lots of cymbols my 6x9 somtimes pop and crackle like a vinyl record at random sounds (snapping fingers, clappin, cymbol crash) just the 6 x 9's. I had 3 ways and I thought they were blown so I traded in for 5 ways and the problems still there, but not as bad. Im not sure if I need more power, "capacitor" (i was told there was no need at my local audio shop) better battery or upgrade my stock Eagle Vision altenator? I have the 12" sub and 6x9 hooked up to the alpine and the components to my deck. I just have this gut feelin the alpine amp is working pretty hard, but I was told it was good enough at the audio shop. Another thing is that I was told the tweets and mids in the front are not running to its full potential, they sound a bit washed out when I crank them up. I was going to upgrade my 200watt deck for a recent 250watt pioneer deck hoping extra power would make use of the components, but should a small amp be considered? All speakers were installed in factory location
1/2 Channel - --Gain set to .05v.which next line from half point --switched to hp(80hz)filter
3/4 channel --Gain set between nom and max (past the .5v mark) --Bass eq set to half --filter on lp
Pioneer TS-A6991R 5 way Pioneer
DEH-p550MP 50w x 4
Pioneer TS-C1353 Seperate components
ONE - Alpine MRP-F250 AMP
ONE - Alpine 12" SWE-1242 E type |

| it doesn't sound like power is your problem.. just sounds like you are over-driving your speakers...
regards, Mark

| Not enough power is your problem. 40wrms is no where near enough for those 6x9's. Clipping is what you are describing. And clipping will destroy speakers. I have my pioneer 6x9's amped at 380wrms, but with the gain set so it will never ever hit clipping. |

| ^^ that is more than possible as well, just I have had issues with pioneer 6x9's just not being able to be 'cranked'... then again I don't know what his interpretation of cranked is, so Tom, you might very well be right..

| What? 380w rms into a 6x9? Are the voice coils made to handle the heat dissipation? Holy Shat, what 6x9's are these?
As far as the original post goes, turn down the gain on the amp, you are sending a distorted signal into the speakers that will result in (if it has not already) a set of blown speakers. Want louder, get a larger amp.

| we listen to the same tunes......... Great shit METALLICA ALL THE WAY FOR ME but anyways. now this is what i notice are we talking about MP3 or real CD not something you burn.....
I have a MP3 CD that has all the metallica Album on but once i turn it up past a point sounds like shit.....
I put the real CD in man sounds like gold.........
My key songs from Metallica
One, Call of a klulu, Unforgiven(Black album),Master of Puppets at 3:09(when it goes all soft..(that sounds really bad)) NOTHING FROM SAINT ANGER!!!
Iron Maiden Music i get that alot and Metallica But you cant beat the real thing. Cradle of Filth is good to for the Guitar parts i know the singer blows ass but the guitast are bloody great! 1980's style
always try playing with your LPF or HPF.
What i personlly do is turn off all the Bass to my Speakers and let the sub do the work for that type of music
when i want drive by shooting music i just open it up nothing filtered.
But if its power Im sure on of the Venders or someone "SMRT" will lead you to the right path.otherewise just have fun with it and waste a couple gas tanks to tweak it to your liking.
PS:If there any GRAMMER error will screw you:P

I have the 6981 4-way rated 420 max but he has the 6991 5 way rated 460 max. Yes they take the 380wrms just fine as long as you don't clip them. |

| as far as i can tell, youve only got the one amp right?
you didnt mention how its wired, but i see are you using the same amp to power the sub and the 6x9s.
could be that you ARE pushing the amp too hard, the impedance is too low and its clipping.
im no expert, but generally snaps, cracks and pops are clipping from dirty power, whether too much or too little.
IMO, i would get another two channel or mono amp and use that to power the sub. use the mrp-f250 to power your components and 6x9s.

| If you really want to make your system better, get another amp for the sub, use the MRP-F250 bridged to 2x180 for the 6x9's and use all 4 channels out of your deck for the components bi-amped. OR, you could use the deck power for the 6x9's and use the MRP-F250 for the components. Still, you need another amp about 200-250 rms for the sub.
Good Luck!! |

| You don't say what you're using for the front end, but if they sound washed out at higher volumes, it's probably because the deck amp is running out of gas too soon.....
Cheapest solution is another amp, 4ohm mono stable to run the sub, and the Alpine to run the 4 corners.
An amp like this one will do a great job powering that sub, and is a nice match power-wise, for the Alpine.
Once you hear the difference that amp makes on your mids and highs, you'll never listen to deck power again......
There are people here who would happily bridge the Alpine to run your tweeters and add more amps to keep up with that, but they are sick and not to be trusted......
