Midbass speakers distored

I have a set of Focal Polyglass 165V components, and the midbass speakers are all distorted at high or lower volume.

My buddy and I initially hooked it up to his zapco amp, and it was all distored, he said the amp might not be working 100% before we started, so we figured that might have been the problem.

For now I just hooked up the speakers to the deck using the coss-overs, but the bass it still distorted at all volumes.

Are the speakers bad, or could it possibly be a wiring problem causing this?

Thanks

I would try switching to a different RCA to see if that's the problem and also look for any wiring arcing on anything especially at the speaker.

Just two guesses off the top of my very tired head.

What are the speakers "highpassed" at?

If the same amount of distortion is coming from both sides, I doubt both speakers are equally damaged.

However if it is more prevelant on one side, you could have a warped voice coil.

Also make sure the speakers aren't coming in contact with your doorpanels when they start moving, this will deflect the cone and cause the voice coil to hit the magnet.

They're being run off a zapco amp now.
They were only running off the deck for a few days until I got everything hooked up.

^ SOOOOO is is still distorted?

is it all frequencies?
are you feeding the amp a good preamp level signal with a max of 2 to 8 volts
is it just one driver or is it several drivers?
does the driver make any crunchy sounds if you move the cone ?
have you substituted a different amp? (please do so)
is voltage 12v or higher
lots of things can cause this from a broke dick amp to a broke dick speaker to make the distorted noise (you might want to describe the distorted sound a little better
is there a capacitor in the circuit? (take it out, listen, then put it back in)

well it is either your signal, the HU or your speakers that are messing up

I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.

The speakers were both blown.

Problem solved.
