Hey Friends,

OK, i'm Michael and i come from Berlin/Germany/Europe, and i have found this forum .

OK I would like to build a 3-way system and I needs still another Midspeaker.
I'm interested in the AVI FRM-70.
Can you tell me something about their loudspeaker?
How is its sound?
Which volume does it need?

My system:

HU: Pioneer P88RS
Andrian Audio A165 and A25g
µ-dimension Pro x 500.24 and µ-dimension pro 3.4

Thanks and greetings from germany

Michael

(sorry, my english is not the best)

Hey Michael, welcome to the forum!

The FRM-70 is a fairly small full range driver (2.5") but I guess you already know that.

It sounds best in ported enclosures I've found. It's quite efficient and surprisingly "full range" for such a tiny driver. Where do you plan on putting it?

I have 4 of these drivers I was planning on putting on the motorcycle. I've since sold the bike, so if you're interested....

Hello Eddie,

nice, thank you,yes i know it.
The AVI is very intresting, it's small and he plays from 100HZ to..., not bad for a 2,5" chassis

I would like the AVI to starting from 150Hz and then I would try out the combination with my A25g

that's my loudspeakers: www.andrian-audio.de

would you like to sell 2 FRM-70? what are they cost?

thanks!

bye Michael

I personally haven't heard of Andrian Audio before, but the A100.neo looks interesting as does the A130. Although the AVI puts the frequency response at a 100Hz and up, I think you'd have a difficult time reproducing such low frequencies smoothly. Personally, I'd say you're better off with a larger driver. Don't get me wrong, they go low... but they have their limits. Even my dome midrange is bigger that the FRM's.

My FRM's are actually 8ohm drivers as I was going to pair them up - two on each side in parallel.

I'm willing to take offers on them. PM to discuss price.

The FRM-70 is a good speaker... however don't expect to push it hard at all if crossed at 150Hz... even though it can play somewhat linear to 150Hz... it can not do this at any sort of moderate volume.
The cone simply is too small and needs to move too much at this frequency... I wouldn't expect it to handle much more than 10w-15wRMS.
I'd strongly suggest going to a 4" driver minimum and even then up your xover freq. on them if running them active... you mentioned a 3-way set and 90% of midbass drivers can play great up to 300Hz minimum.

As chinaman mentioned... these are designed for ported enclosures, with a tuning around 100Hz the port really bumps up output in the 150Hz range and reduces cone motion drastically... the enclosures needed are very small also... if you're doing fiberglass kickpanels anyways, a small port wouldn't be hard to fit in... however try to keep tuning of the port at least a half octave below what you'll crossover the speaker at to avoid any phase issues (or group delay) with the midbass speaker.

One thing you'll love regardless if you go with this speaker is midrange clarity... vocals are very pure.

Regardless I still suggest a 4" midrange... even more so if you like it loud at all.
