Also I would add to read as much as you can. then read some more. When reading though a tech article, or someones post, if they mention something you are not farmiliar with, add that to a list of thigns to find out. Going to shows, and being involed with the hobby is a great way to get into it, but having a bit of knowledge to start with will get you much farther when talking to the pro's, opposed to them having to explain everything they are saying to you, not that they would mind; just you will get more out of it with the understandign of the concepts and princepals.

edit: oh and by the way, there is tons of great info on this site, but the problem is that it is often burried under a small tiny hard to find search button... it's your friend.
