Best 12" sub for SQ in 1.0cu ft sealed box

I've bought an Eclipse CD4000 and ran 3 sets of RCA to the Audison SRX5 in the trunk. It's powering Focal 165V1 components in the front and Focal 165CV1 coax in the rear. I already have a PG 12" sub in a 1.0 cu. ft. sealed box but I'm not happy with the depth and accuracy of the bass. I think this sub in a 1.0 box is set up for SPL, not quality.

I don't have a lot of trunk space so I don't really want to build a bigger box. Does anyone have knowledge of a good sounding sub, with nice depth, in a box that size? Would I get better results from a nice 10" sub? I'd like to keep it under $350 - $400 or so if possible . . . the wife thinks I've blown the first $1600 as it is.

This sub is worth a look.
Diyma Reference 12" Subwoofer Diy Mobile Audio

There are a few reviews in the review section of that forum. Apparently it works really well in a .5cuft sealed box with about 500watts.

Lately he's been putting a couple on eBay every few weeks. They've been going for between $50 and $80 (USD). Keep in mind shipping will add significantly to the cost since they are almost 40lbs.

Question is where is he going to get the 500w from?

I wanted to drop the same recommendation along with Peerless XXLS (except for it's slightly bigger box recommendation), but I don't think even DIYMA sub will do good on the power available off his amp. SRX5 puts out 180w on the sub channel, doesn't it?

Hmmm... Good point. The least I've heard someone run a DIYMA12 on was 300w. I guess even if he did have 180w, it would only put out about 3db less than with 300w.

1 cuft and 180 watts is a tough one. Maybe it's the lack of power that's contributing to the lack of depth and accuracy. Headroom = control.

How about an Image Dynamics IDQ12d2? The recommended power is between 100w to 500w and the recommended enclosure size is .55-1.00 cuft.

Thanks for the prompt replies, guys. According to WinISD that sub will have a smoother bottom end but will roll of to -3db even faster than my PG. I'm trying to get a bit more extension if possible, though it would be nice to get rid of the 90hz hump that the PG has, too. It's too bad that the driver database for WinISD is so out of date .. . . it could be a great tool for this.

Interesting. What about the JBL GTO1202D or 1002?

Which PG are you running?

I think it's a QX12. I've had it for about 3 or 4 years now. I'm thinking I need a sub with Qt of about 0.44 and Vas less than 50. . . . or maybe I don't
