I'm looking for a decent sub in a low price range (used probably)
my amp is a kenwood kac-9102d (850W RMS @2ohm) <--edit, had 4ohm for some reason
and most of the music i listen to is rock and metal, but i like to crank michael jackson now and then also
-looking for a sub that can handle the wattage without being harmed
and any input as to what type of enclosure i should look at.. i'm starting to lean to sealed so i can get more trunk space back, but i could live with vented too

right now i'm looking at a rockford fosgate T212d4 but i'm not sure how that will perform for rock and metal

please give suggestions on other subwoofers to look at

edit: it's strictly a daily driver.. i just want it to sound good

if trunk space is what your after then look into the kenwood excelon slim subs. Kenwood claims they get pretty loud and the 10's only require 0.6 cuft. I'm not sure about the 12's. The've got a carbon fiber cone that looks pretty cool too.

i'm not fixed on space saving, it're more tied to price i have to pay out for the sub :P

it's going in a 2002 grand prix, so there's a fair bit of trunk space

The new kenwood slims would be great, aswell as the pioneer slims. And if space isnt to much of an issue you could go with Pioneer premier's new tsw-spl subs which sound great in a smaller sealed box then others to produce good punch for the rock and even some jackson. They are also priced fairly low if you can find a deal.

If you can fit a conventional sub there is no reason to use a shallow mount as there are much better options to use as most shallows suck compared to conventional designs.

Nothing wrong with a T2 but you said you wanted something in a low price range which the T2's are not.

What is your price range?

ideally i'd prefer under $150.. used doesnt bother me as long as it can still perform
too many things coming up to spend money on
