Tony, I didn't really believe your twice the price comment, so I checked prices on the Alpine and found it at three different stores for around $430 Canadian.
That's sticker, and I could probably get it for a little less.

The Clarion is $300 USd on crutchfield, didn't really bother looking much harder, nor did I look locally, although I assume it can be found for less.

I REALLY would not want to buy stuff where you shop, because if that alpine is going for $600+, you are getting taken.

Besides the fairly negligeble price difference, Clarion really soured me on a reliability standpoint, a lot of people have good luck with them, but I wouldn't buy another.

I just took Alpine's retail from their Website and Clarion's Retail.. As a rep I'm not gonna get into what they sell for on the street at a dealers. I will retract the word "sells" in my original post though - that was a bad choice of word - so MSRP, Retail etc it is..

I just checked - 9887 retails for $629 CDN (that is also the retail in their price book apparently too - but you can ask a dealer to confirm that).
DXZ775 retails for $369 CDN

I'm not out to bash - just was showing the differences as they are from what each company... If you can grab either of them for a deal they are both great.

One quick question - why did you call 3 local stores for Alpine and then reference a US Website for the Clarion unit - and only 1 place?

I would not be surprised if Certified Radio or A&B in Edmonton had a deal on the 775 for you.

All being said even if you did the deal price on the Alpine and paid FULL list on the clarion - you'd still have ~$70 bones in your pocket for more gear or beer!! With all the features etc as listed above.

In the end it's Bronco's thread, so we'll leave it up to him to ask what he wants to know. He asked which one, I gave him some facts as they are stated in print. I would imagine Bronco's is an educated enough consumer to check prices before taking the plunge if they are smart enough to ask advice here before buying - if only to keep the sales people honest

Thanks for the input and I look forward to hearing back on your price samples. In the end it doesn't matter as each person will make up their own mind

Anyways - enough for one Friday - off to the pub for some drinkin

Alpine amps are just ok in my opinion. Much better stuff out there for the money. The only components by Alpine I would consider are Type X.

I didn't post to start an argument, so I hope it wasn't taken that way.

Why did I not check more prices for the Clarion?
Frankly, because I have no interest in buying one.
As posted in earlier, I got burned with a lemon from Clarion and they didn't really do anything to retain me as a customer.

I had seen the 9887 for around 450, and I just wanted to check what a generic price for the Clarion was, because sometimes people want a recommendation for a deck that isn't alpine
Crutchfield is a pretty safe bet, because although their prices are in American dollars, I can usually find the same product for a similar cost in Canadian dollars locally.

sold both for years 11 to be exact and I would get the clarion hands down best value on the market and excellent reliability and service is SECOND TO NO ONE if there ever is a problem that in itself is worth its weight in gold

No worries.. not meaning to get into one either, just like to see all sides get reviewed evenly.
