Rob, do me a favour an pm me and let me know what you can do price wise with the Eclipse HUs and I'll give it some thought before jumping on the Alpine 9887.

Thanks

Just picked up an 9887 for starts. I tell you it was "sound" place to start. I can't tell you what it has done for my factory Honda speakers they actually sound like aput a new set of components in unbeleivable- WOW! Huge difference! They actually have some slam, more clarity detailed highs with air and firm tight bass. Mind you it does break up at a much higher volumes. Sounds much louder than 18 watts per channel. I can't imagine (it's been a long time for me- born again car audio virgin) what a good set of amps, components and subs would sound like (next phase). I was told this HU is the next best HU since the Alpine CDA 7998 of which I was trying to get my hands on. Bang for the buck awesome 24 bit DAC. Mp3's are a killer on this already tried various genre's from Jazz, Blues, R & B, female and male vocals. It is a tad bit forward at times I hoping it will smooth
out over time once it works in. If not I will buy my components and amps accordingly to fine tune the sound. All in all quite impressed by the huge gains with the installation of this unit. Not the most user friendly HU need to spend time on the manual and probably more bells and whistles than most audiophiles need. To reiterate "BANG FOR THE BUCK" I know I'm going to build one wicked sound system from this.
Sounder Light in Orangeville $425 c/o Lou. Great guy took the time to help me set up the time correction feature and parametric equalizers.
Cheers,
Sheldon

I read about this HU on crutchfield, and one commenter mentioned he can't adjust bass/treble until he purchases the accompanying EQ, IMPRINT Sound Manager (KTX-100EQ). Did you get the KTX at the same time? How much?

I have this HU on my short list as well and would like to know the cost of both.

I remember playing with this unit in a store, and I don't remember having that problem. I could adjust bass/treble, and everything else, but could not figure out how to get into t.a. settings. Staff was also confused. But we did not check the manual.

I'm not sure what Sharkman is talking about but everything you need is built into this deck. It is very confusing at first but the more you play with the Hu you will notice that setting the various features requires the same keys or buttons. It doesn't come with one push of a button anymore at least not with this unit, but with a series of sequential pushes and a rotation or two or three...of the knob. Setting the time correction is a bit tedious and does require some measurement from your head height to the individual speakers. A refence chart is given to help with the settings. You can do this from multiple positons in your car ie Drivers seat, passenger seat or rear with multiple settings. In short, it time delays the speakers closest to your ears and matches it with those furthest away so it sounds like your sitting in a room directly in front centre of your speakers. It opens out your soundstage.

All in all I am blown away with it's potential on my stock system. The biggest change is the detail and clarity. I actually notice time and space in my music. The hang time in cymbals, the time and pauses between notes.
All my cd's sound different to me.
Again for the money BANG FOR THE BUCK!!!
Sheldon

Thanks for your responses, I feel reassured about the issues I raised. On this link, a consumer reviewer says he can't adjust the bass or treble without the external EQ unit sold separately, but it sounds like perhaps he just hadn't found out how to yet.

At any rate, I'm now pretty sure it's the deck for me, I just need to decide if I want to buy it off a U.S. web site and save more. Of course, the down side would be warranty issues. I need to ask myself if I feel lucky I guess...

Sharkman,
Bass and Treble adjustments, push knob until you find selection, bass, treble, fader, balance...and rotate for adjustment.
Aside from all the bells and whistles you have the:
-24 Burr Brown DAC
-4v pre-out
- the option to shut down all lighting or auto dimming
- the option to run without using the amp section
These alone are great features of this deck that will greatly heighten the sound and provides greater flexibility to a user. Compare to the previous 7987 HU.

Looking to buy a high end component system Focal, Morel, Dynaudio, Hertz or Image Dynamics... would anybody have any experiences or reccommendations or perhaps have some gently used components they want to move. Please let me know.
I am looking to purchase a high powered Audison amp for my components.

Regards,

Sheldon
