| I see this old thread keeps coming back to life.
Sorry, don't know much about the kenwood, my son-in-law has one and raves about it. I can't stand the look of the thing.
Anyway, I got my Alpine "Imprinted" and I'm here to rave about it.
I'm Impressed!!!!

1. Kenwood x991
2. Alpine 9887
3. Pioneer 880prs |

What you get instead of bass or treble is actually superior to them. a seven band eq gives much better flexibility for tuning your sound although it's a little more complicated.
I keep meaning to phone a&bsound and see if they do imprints yet since every single person who's had it done on this forum raves about it!
cheers. | i doubt AB Sound will do imprinting...they don't even carry alpine anymore because Best Buy started carrying the brand...
IMO, if AB Sound can't compete w/ Best Buy's crappy prices, then AB Sound must be in serious trouble...AB Sound's marketing departmend needs to get themselves out of the 80's...i'm surprised they still don't have a decent website yet... |

| Having now installed upwards of 2 dozen of these units, I'd like to offer the following observations;
-results obtained using Imprint will vary greatly with only small changes in mic placement. You should run it a couple of times, save the two curves and compare them.
-Imprint has, in my experience, worked best in systems using out-board amplification. When used as an OEM upgrade, I've always ended up with better results when tuning by ear.
-I have had 2 units, out of 30, that needed to be returned for repair.
One had a control panel fault (lights, camera, but no action) and the second had a fault with the main harness. It would spontaneously go into mute mode.
Both items have been repaired and have not failed since.
-The control interface for Ipod, while a vast improvement on the outboard box used on earlier units, could still use some streamlining. The "enter" key needs to be addressed on the volume control in order to be more intuitive and similar to the Ipod control wheel.
Excellent unit, great preamp, superior signal processing, tasteful cosmetics.
Now they'll probably replace it with a dud. |
