Alright, i admit it. Im a bass fanatic. I think my settings on the amp are overdone because the amp shuts itself off after 2 minutes or so of loud thumping. Was wondering what the PROPER tuning for this setup would be

HU - kenwood exelon KDCX789

Amp - kenwood KAC-9102D

Subs - MTX Thunder 4500 10" x2 in the older style front ported MTX box.

Now in a perfect world id LOVE to crank them and not blow my subs. But as far as i know my amp is too powerful for the subs.

So, in short. Help me get the best boom without killing my system.

If your amp is shutting off after a few mins, that could be due to improper loading, ie. impedance of woofers is too low for the amp.

Try turning th gain down, and see if it still happens. If it does, then it is your woofer impedance, if not, then just keep your gain down a little.

Try doing what others suggested^^^. As for your amp being too powerful, I would not worry about it. These amps are severely overrated, and probably do not put out more than 700 watts rms at full power. So, it seems your amp is a perfect match for your subs. Impedance is probably your culprit, unless your wiring is tiny, or your amp ground is bad, as I am thinking you may get this problem if the amp is not getting enough juice for the demand due to lack of free current flow.

Power wire and the ground are at least a half inch thick. So i dont think thats a problem. When i grounded it i drilled it right to the floor (grinded the paint and sanded it after first). Im thinking its the gain. Il try turning it down and see what happens.

If your final load impedance is correct, and your subs are fine(voice coils could be glitching from overexcursion) then you may want to upgrade to a better amp sooner than later

p.s. Good job on the ground wire.
