Hi, i recently got a JBL w15 GTI MkII From a friend. i'm not sure how to go about looking for an amp for a 3 ohms sub. here is the specs i got from JBL

# Power handling RMS: 800 watts
# Power handling Peak: 5,000 watts
# Cut-out diameter: 13-7/8"
# Mounting depth: 10-1/4"
# Sensitivity: 92dB
# Dual 6-ohm voice coils
# Impedance 3 or 12 ohms

Questions:
The RMS of the sub is 800w, but is that at 3, 6 or 12 Ohms?
What is the RMS at 3 ohms?
If i looked for an amp i would need a 2 ohm stable amp at what rms?
anything else you know about this sub let me know

Thanks in advance

800RMS is the max the sub can handle! it has nothing to do with how the sub is wired it is about how much power your amp delivers...

What is the RMS at 3 ohms?

see above

if you plan to wire to 3ohm then yes find a 2ohm stable amp something in that makes around 800rms or more at 2ohm because at 3ohm you wont be getting the full power of the 2ohm rating. This is of course if you want to max out the sub.

you also have to keep in mind any plans to add more subs in the future!

well you can run all the power in the world to be honest hahaha but your sub might not like it... look for something in that range and you'll be fine

ummm whats your budget? ill throw you some possibilities... you dont need to have that much power... im sure i can track something down in your price range that would be suitable...

so two questions... how much you looking to spend

and what do you drive?

gah damn trunk cars! ok gimme some time ill see what i can find that would work well for that price... also dont be afraid of used amps because if an amp blows new or not you are paying to fix it either way so used is always a good option
