| I have recently heard people rave about the benefits of 'going active', using deqx or similar equipment....can anyone elaborate a little on this please? |

| If you are looking to go active, there are other ways to do it other then dexq or another processor. Find a deck that does active right on it (PRS-880) or an amp that will allow active settings (Sundown SAX-100.4). Tend to be a touch more cost effective. |

| okay, but what exactly is an active setup? I have an 880prs, how do I go active on it and what is the benefit? |

Now basically what an active crossover gives you the ability to do is choose the crossover points and slopes for your speakers rather than a predetermined crossover slope and points determined by a passive crossover. This is a huge advantage because we all know that each car has different characteristics that can alter a speaker’s response. An active crossover can be used to make up for these discrepancies in a car.
| This is quoted from another forum. This is basically the benefits.
As for going active on the deck, you adjust the slope and frequency settings on the channels of the deck to where you want them, check in the manual for how to do it properly. |

| Dont forget no loss that occurs in a passive set up.It has however been proven that a well designed passive crossover for components can sound better and make up for the lack in some areas(or smooth things outhelp in on and off axis)
Look up Mike Harris stuff on passive crossovers for more indeph info

You may not be able to adjust it all without a good active eq and a parametric. You typically run a parametric with an active system since you are going with all the bells and wistles anyway.
Finally in this brief reply... you typcially gain an efficiency factor of 4 meaning if you want the output of a 200W setup with a passive crossover you only need 50W in an active system. Don't forget you don't need a lot of power for the higher end of the frequency responce. A tweeter cannot handle 200W, the passive crossover attenuates the power output to the tweeter from the crossover. If you take a look at a set of MB Quart Q line components the crossover lights up red hot from filtering off the power from your amp before it sends a very small portion to the tweeter. Hope this helps.
Thx |

| One of the biggest advantages I've found since going active is the indepedant time alignement on all the speakers I have which is pretty useful since I have a 4-way front stage. I was always lacking a bit of focus until going fully active.

| Okay guys, thanks a lot for the inputs. Now i am REALLY interested to go active and tune my car to 'much better' sq than what the 880prs auto ta and eq give me, and i need to learn how to do that...any pointers?
Secondly, i am looking at installing pvf 216 from mb quarts up front, and pwh304 sub in the rear with mb quart amps...how would you rate this setup? specially the sub and amps? recommend any change for th better for equivalent price? |

| Only ish with the DQXS is not time alignment.. so if the pioneer does that great, add a DQXS... If you want a head that does it all nicely looks at a 9255 from Clarion.
Alpo had some processors that did EQ, TA etc if memory serves, but they are rare to find now.. 701 I think it was..
There are other processors to look at that for some reason I can't remember right now..
