Hi all,

I've learned alot from this website over the past little while as the knowledge and experience from forum members is quite vast.

That being said, I am contemplating an all active system with the Alpine 9835 as the source for it's active internal crossovers.

a) How critical is the quality of the amplifier for the tweeters alone?

b) Am I correct in assuming that the amplifier for mid-range and midbass region of the front stage is far more critical than an amplifier for the tweeters alone?

c) Does anyone have any suggestions for the tweeter only amplification. FYI, my front stage is currently runnning the Dynaudio 240 MkII with 2 channels from an Arc Audio 4150 XXK. I am considering running the tweeters and midbass of the Dyns, each with a dedicated channel from the Arc, but I am worried that 85 watts to a tweeter is a bit too much overkill...

Thanks in advance!
Dennis

I know exactly what you are thinking.

Read here:

85 watts if fine for a tweeter, what's bad is 30 watts being driven into clipping.

I use my XXK 4150 to drive my tweeters too, haven't had any problem.

Thanks Adam.

Did you find a major benefit running your system active or should I run the 4150 XXK bridged with 320 watts to each side of my front stage?

Bridging the amp for your highs is not good (well not as good as stereo)..There is more THD ! THE SOUND WONT BE AS CLEAR, JUST LOUDER...

^ You could bridge most amps and run them at half an ohm and, provided they stayed on, the THD would still be WAY below anything a human could hear...

I found a large benifit from running my front stage totally active, and it's getting better still.

Right of the bat when I matched the active X.O. points to the passive ones I noticed a big improvement. Then when I adjusted the X.O. points to optimize for driver location it got even better. There is still room to improve as well.

I highly recommend going totally active.

I doubt you'd be able to hear any difference in SQ by simply bridging the XXK 4150. THD is over rated as a spec. It is well below the threshold that the human ear can hear. At 1% THD, you will notice a difference, but comparing between 0.005% and 0.01% is silly.

I would challenge anyone to hear a diffrence at 5% with music.

Good info... I am looking at doing an active setup as well with a 2100 XXK for the mids and a 2050 XXK for the tweets... may get in on a Seas Lotus group buy
