Well for starters, like others have told you, they are not meant to be mounted on a 45 degree angle, that is a huge no no. I have owned 3 sets of Veritas horns (and many compression drivers) and none needed huge amounts of EQing if mounted and set up properly. A good friend had the Veritas 75VD's (same as yours) in his car with the Alpine F#1 Status system, and Seas midbasses. It only required 2 bands of EQ, one cut about 2 db, and another 1 db... And before you start posting about the wonders of digital EQ's, keep in mind Jamie Edmundson won a world championship with a pair of Audiocontrol EQT's on his Veritas horns.

I have also owned 3 sets of Image horns as well, and have had good results. Any brand can work well in the right hands.

Horns come with a love hate relationship, basicaly you have to decide what is most important to you, and if horns fit the bill(ie-solid soundstage, dynamics, depth) give em a try. [img]graemlins/jammin.gif[/img]

I found along with a good eq, you will need some good x-over processing. It's nice to have the EQ'ing in any vehicle, horns or not. I found the horns I had (USD) needed alot of EQ'ing for RTA purposes.

It is unfortunate for me that a pair of EQT'S did not work with my horns...I tried everything to get them to sound right, I'm actually pretty suprised that someone actually got these horns to play well with an EQT.

I'm still glad I switched to DIGITAL stuff because now my horns blow me out of the water,and that is something that wasn't possible with the EQT's. And strange but true I have a pretty decent soundstage the way I have them set-up at 45 degrees...Still have lot's of tweaking to do though. [img]graemlins/puke.gif[/img]

I've been really impressed with my ID CD2's.....horns will get you loud with great SQ.....if you have the extra cash for them and the install....

Get some CD2's and see how much EQing they need [img]tongue.gif[/img]
CD1 Pro MH's are considerably easier in every respect.

I'm curious about horns.

Judging by Orion 95's opinion I guess this query is directed at Kilowatt.

I have heard a few horns in cars; but, they always seem to stage low. The imaging that I have heard is quite good not to mention exceptional linearity with the right midbass compliment. It seems logical that they naturally stay linear at higher SPL than most drivers. Physics is on their side. I believe that SPL and HiFi can co-exist; after all, it does in the real world of HiFi (live non-amplified symphony). So after all that, how do you make a monster tweeter stage high?

I find the CD2's a lot tamer than the peaky CD1 Pro's. My CD2's required little EQ'ing, while the CD1 Pro's were quite "hot". The CD2 sounds a lot like a nice silk dome tweeter with the roll off on the top end.

There are several tricks to raise the soundstage in a car using HLCD's from dash mat's to various tuning techniques. What horns are you using, and what are your crossover/phase settings? What kind of car are they in? So many variables... [img]graemlins/freak.gif[/img]

Q- do you set them up on axis or off axis? IMO one way is better but both could work
