Yes they are really speakers. The usually get mounted under the dash, but I have seen some crazy people put them IN the dash as well. Some think they are worth the cash, some think they are junk.
Horns will give you a broader range of frequencies than a tweeter will. They typically give you a great soundstage, but there is alot of tweeking and equaization involved to make them sound just as great.

I do believe that Elitecaraudio.com has an excellent article on horns.

I like mine too.

I don't know who conceived the notion that horns need alot of EQing...they don't.

My horns unfortunatly do need alot EQ'ing, I have a pair of Veritas horns and since the day I bought them I've had a tough time taming them...But the final results is well worth the time.

I seem to buy cars that are very challenging to install horns into. If I could get them to fit without major gymnastics I would use them in a heartbeat.

If your looking for a car to install a pair of (VERITAS) horns into or any HORN then get an Eagle Vision. The drivers side horn fits under the dash very easily wthout any Cutting...the passenger side horn has to have the Magnet mounted upside down but they are still perfectly flush with each other...(And I am using the large 3" Diaphrams in my car)----the only fabricating you'll have to do is weld some heavy gauge steel together to make the brackets for them to mount to...------The dash of my car is molded in a way that extends the horns mouth all the way to the center of my dash...------Also the sound eminating from the sides of the horns REFLECTS of the curved surface of the door handle creating some pretty sonic Ambience in the cabin without any rear fill. The curved suraces inside the car really helps in Dispersing the sound from the horns.

I heard Joe Blacks car this WE and he has horns in there, under the dash. The horns did what horns have always been best at ...sounding real and being dynamic. He had a lot of EQ and ran the bulk of the freq spectrum through them... going from moderatly quiet to full on loud there was no tonal shift it just got loud. Not all horns, or cars, sound the same so EQ will vary.

I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.
