if by pre amp you mean line driver then yes...

caps are crap... they are like a band aid for a weak electrical system... they help for a split second but then have to steal power to recharge again...

what amp are you using? and what do you have for a battery?

Scoobs- what everyone is telling you is the 14v and 12v question your asking is on the cars DC power supply to the amplifier. That is essentially the difference between a car running (14v) and the car turned off (12v). This has nothing to do with a line driver or the RCAs.

The 4v pre-amplifier out is the RCA max voltage and should run ANY AMPLIFIER to full power, there should be no need for a line driver.

The way you asked (and then commented) indicates a conceptual error and is making folks concerned that you could damage your equipment. Please feel free to ask questions prior to getting in over your head. This board is a mix of newbs and old salts so we never know how much you do or do not know.

I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.

Ive got it all sorted out. Ive already got my deck installed I did it over a year ago, im just going to multi mode now and using 3 amps and I wanted to run 14V.

I think I should be fine, judging from my volt meter in the truck it runs 14v fine, how accurate it is I dont know.

Thanks.

yeah as long as its running you should be fine. if you do notice alot of dimming there are ways to fix that. number one is a good battery.
