I understand what you are saying; however, other than changing one's speakers, the biggest improvement one can make is to improve the source. Garbage in, garbage out is a cliche because it is true -- if you do not have an excellent source, you cannot have excellent sound.

justifiable improvement, 2 words that should never be said together(negatively speaking) when talking about audio, oh and the ever stupid, law of diminishing returns. if there is a difference for the better with a new d/a converter, the value in it will be determined by the person purchaing it and no one else. would you spend 5000 to make your stereo sound 5% better, it would depend on your passion, some have more than others

It's hard to imagine a 600mb (hdcd) disc sounding as good as a 4.5gig disc (dvd audio)..
kinda like a high tech band-aid almost.

Yup......

Garbage in...Garbage out...so true. The best CD player in the world will not make some of the craptastic new release sound good!

DVD-Audio compared against HDCD?
Isn't that like apple pie with icecream compared to oranges?

DVD-A done right sounds very nice.
DVD-A done wrong sounds horrible...regarldess of how much space you have on the medium.

HDCD is very nice.... but what about the DAD disks (24/96 2 channel) and the often forgotten DTS disks (20 bit surround)... just curious as to what you boys think...
