Hey guys I was wondering what amp you would choose to power a pair of subs in a sealed enclosure that are rated at 750rms or 1500max each and are duel 4ohm coils. Right now I have 2 1000rms @2ohm amps but would like to go to a single amp to simplify the system. I will have to buy preowned as I cant afford the new price but.... Any way what amp would you choose and and your reasons why? I dont want to run anything to its limit either as both my 1000s will run 1ohm but they get tooooo tooosty and I dont believe in working stuff that hard. Thanks in advance.

why do you want to go with a new amp? sounds like the 2 you have should do the job. is it an issue of space?

If you don't want to run anything one ohm then you are making it tough to find a one-amp solution. With 2 dual 4 ohm voice coils you either have to:

a) Find a two channel amp that will push 750 RMS at 2 ohms per channel;
b) Find a 1 channel amp that will give you 1500RMS at 4 ohms (series parallel wiring); or,
c) Find a 1 channel amp that will give you 1500RMS at 1 ohm (parallel/parallel wiring).

Since you say you don't want to wire anything down to 1 ohm then c is not an option. You are going to have to dish out some serious coin to find an amp for either a or b above. One amp that can run 2 channels at 2 ohms each is the Eclipse DA7232 (Max 2000 per channel but RMS isw probably 1000-1500 which will be fine with sealed enclosures). Good luck!

Or find an amp that does 1200RMS at 4 ohms (still underrated); Nudge, Nudge. Hit me with PM if you want more on this

Thanks for the replies guys
I just thought it would be eazier with 1 amp but the more I look at the higher wattage mono amps I see they are mostly all class "d" and seem to have a lot dirtier signal THD than the A/Bs I already have( I really dont know if my ears could tell, but??). I have yet to install this stuff so I just figured before I go thru the work of wiring it and mounting it I would ask your opinions, im glad I did Seems every time I second guess myself I screw-up a good plan
