Hey fellas, I bought a short box, full size, single cab pick up 4 years ago with the intent on putting a great system in, but my first attempt didn't so well with faulty equip, and I rushed through the intsall. So that was about 4 years ago and since I have been listening to some delco specials off an Alpine deck.

I was wondering if any of you have ever put a system in or currently own and have a sytem in a sngle cab pick up? I am going for sound quality, but I would like to make the install either really wild, or stealthed. I have thought of even changing my dash and positioning my speakers so that they are facing me because my left leg totally blocks my door speaker. Also has anyone put subs in a bed of a truck with a cut out between the cab and box? I would like to do this, but I would like to keep the cab as sturdy as possible when cutting the hole. Some sort of bracing maybe? Not totally sure what equipment I am going to be purchasing yet, I still need to do more research, so any suggestions on what components or subs or whatever would really work well in a single cab pick up are much appreciated.

You should try and get ahold of Westec (James Chevrette) on the board here. He lives in Calgary, is the Canadian director of USACi (knows his SQ) and had one of the best sounding trucks I have heard (mind you it was an S-10 but they have similar obstacles to good sound).

As MegaHurtz said, I have an 85 Chevy I compete with. Check my webpage, page 6 I believe it is. I have to update the pics a bit but the completed system is on there. I took the sub box on the tranny hump out though. What year is your truck?

The challenge you will have is depth. Hard to get good depth in a reg. cab truck.

I think trucks in general are great SQ vehicles. They have so much room for kick panels and for dash mounted tweets or mids.

They have a serious SQ advantages over many cars IMO. For the SPL big-boom they can be a little difficult

^ I dunno - I find that 5 foot wide piece of glass 2" behind the listener's head to be annoying. Reflect much ?? [img]graemlins/freak.gif[/img] And it's hard to treat to boot..

And while I for sure agree about space, I find the width and height that a person sits at compared to depth from the KPs to be a formidable obstacle.

Of course nothing is impossible and a truck can sound great, but given the choice of SQ vehicles, a single cab truck is way down on my list.

Good luck though - when you achieve great SQ it will pleasantly surprise many people.

Agreed, the single cab has challenges the SUV's and extended cabs don’t have. But time and knowledge is the owner’s best friend. There are several top sounding competitors (IASCA/ MECA) who currently use trucks (i.e. Keith Turner, Dave Hogan, Steve Head, Bill Steenburgen...) but most competitors who fall in the 'truck' category have extended cabs or SUV's (Alma, Mark E., Justin Polk, Cory Himel (pre-flood), etc.). I haven’t seen any trucks at the USACi shows last year but I am sure they are there.

Steve competed his truck at SVR

2 of his team mates (the Audio Nutz's) competed trucks as well

more than a couple of the Nutz have big woofers in the doors, pretty cool (and they dont rattle!)
