Hello, I'm new to the car audio circuit and an wondering a few things.

I listen to classic rock, and some heavier metal. I want heavy kick drum, but no blurring bass. The less I hear and more I feel, the better. I'm all about quality, as I don't need 3000DB killing my ears.

My setup is fully optional, as I plan on starting over with the new car I've got my eye on(87 RX7). Sofar the only thing that will remain is my Clarion DXZ855MP HU.
I'll have the whole trunk avail, but would like to stick to the hump behind the seats. Willing to spend a bit, but not an arm and a leg. under 1k for amp kinda thing... I will be making my own box so the complicated designs are beyond me.

I've been told that 10's hit harder than 12's and sealed is the way to go.. Sofar I think I'm looking for 2x10's and 2x8's?

First thing you gotta do is STOP listening to whoever told you 10's hit harder than 12's.......next is you need to go to either shops or shows and listen to some equipment and/or cars to figure out what you're looking for.
you said sq and talked about amps and subs but didnt mention what I consider the most important part, the front of the stage where like 95% of the music should be coming from....

The shops I've been to have let me down, so I stopped looking to them.
as for the top end, and mids.. I figured that I'd get then construction in, then go for the rest of the system. since 6.5's and such fit (or at least should) in the stock locations.
Throw me info. ;D link about frequency, tuning, anything you got. I'm willing to learn.

4 - 8s will give you the response the 8s (for rock and heavy metal) but the cone area of a 15 (SPL). It's my favorite system, I listen to AC/DC, Poison, Judas Priest etc. You will not find to many systems like this...but it was my best all around every day system.

8's are nice for a daily driver. Way back in the late 80's, I had a system in my stang with 4-8" MTX blue thunders powered with just 400 watts (remember back then a powerful sub could take 300 watts). It was one of my favourite systems for everyday listening, very tight, clean bass with very little ultra low bass. I remember listening to a lot of Rush and prog rock back then, Lakside park, closer to the heart, and limelight played really nice! If you're really into your rock, then you can't go wrong with a set up like that. I suggest 4 of them though, as Westec said...spl, 2 just isn't loud enough.

ok im gonna go with these guys just cause veeman said RUSH sounded good... and IMO anything that RUSH sounds good on is kick ass for real music! though neil pearts drum solos sound incredible with my 1 ten...

Though in my house i dont have anything larger then an 8" and my house stereo owns my car for music like seriously.

how do you use your car ?
things i would look at are 0G wire form your battery to where your amps will be (look in the for sell part )
think on how you plan on running the wires power it not next to the rca's .
so power L side rca on R side i.e
then i would think how to make my set up not seen ,so it is not gone when i left the car
i like 4 8" subs for that (fake floor with the subs and amp under it )
atomic has a 24" sub if you go for the O-MY-F###ING-GOD thing

Ahh, thanks all for input. I'm heavy into the Zeppelin and MetallicA, floyd queen and slayer are backups though. As for daily driving... I know I will be, but I really don't want to. Ill probably buy a bike for work and school when it rolls around.
@hiding the setup.. never thought of that, just thought of alarm... I plan to go 1/maybe 0 ga wire passenger side, and rca's driver side along with speaker wires. 60/80A fuse <12" from batery, perm ground to frame via bolt hole and weld. Was thinking of clearing up engine bay room by relocating battery, pretty sure its not worth it.

If 4 8"s are what you think... then thats cool with me. I would however, like to see some links and atricles about it.
