Not what I'm looking for............

The midrange driver is the MOST critical driver in the front end. Hardest to pick, hardest to install right and if not done right, will absolutely kill your front end. That is WHY I'm starting there. It's installation is a combination of PLD's and angles.......... and enclosures.......... and surfaces and on and on. Anyways, long story short, I don't agree with what you posted
nevermind....and I agree

I think regardless of your choice, your mid will have trouble playing 200Hz. Not wilth any real volume anyway. Gumby mentioned that the Hybrid will do 140Hz at reference levels. If your after lower overall volume then your choices will open up a lot. I have 4" Revs in my dash and would consider them to be as good as any midrange available, but even for them 200Hz is a stretch at high volumes. I still think that 200Hz is just a number pulled out of a hat. If your concern is keeping your stage height up, then you should have no problems even if your sitting at 500Hz. Your midbass should not pull your stage down much if any after being installed properly. The ideal situation would be to have a mid that can properly produce 75Hz or so and up on your dash. Most information that has effects placement will be there or above, give or take. Have you considered domes?

if you deceide to go into the 4.5 range the only two I would consider would be the Revs, or HAT L4's. IMO if you have the room you are better suited to go with the 4.5's over the 3's.

200 hz is a guideline I set to try and achieve. It's not set in stone. Everyone has their own ways and theories on how to achieve what they want. I try to achieve as close to the impossible as ......... well....... possible (!!) in having the least amount of drivers play the most amount of the "noise" spectrum as possible. Honestly, I rarely achieve exactly what I want in my own car as there's always some sort of downfall.......... be it the car, my lame installation attempts on that day, lack of time testing and building due to family constraints, a badly thinned out wallet ......... all compromises..............

I'm NOT looking to crank it but it has to have some ability to properly play to that frequency at a fairly good volume without the driver coughing and sputtering.

New A-pillars are coming today from BMW so I'll be able to hack up the existing ones and I'll get a better idea on what's possible......... hopefully this week............ and hoepfully 4".

On another note, dug up some Dynaudio MW 160's I forgot I had and some crazy Rainbow 6.5" midbass driver.......... that I have to pull specs on. Both possible candidates ............

As for the Hybrid Audio gear, I think Scott is in discussions with someone right now here in Canada to rep/distribute his stuff. His L4 is pretty nice as a mid when I heard it ........... or maybe that was the 3" I heard. Hmmmmmm

Are there air bags in the pillars of the X5? What year is it. I've only worked on a 2007 so I'm not sure what the differences are between your year and the one I'm familar with. If they are the same you could always use the factory upper door location and the sail panel. I'm guessing, but you probably willing to build a pod on the pillars that will marginally effect you feild of view? The hump is pretty big too, but nothing you can work with.
