speaker hitting against door trim

Hey guys, I just got a system installed professionally and I have a problem with it.
At high volume the midbass speaker in the door vibrates the door trim by hitting up against it through excursion, I found out about this by listening to them at full blast outside the car with the door open.

I called up the installer and I was told this is normal and just creates noise but wont cause damage to the speakers, he offered to have spacers fit in the door.

Is this a major problem, could it of damaged my speaker already?

I am taking it back to have spacers fit in to keep the door trim away from the speaker, is this okay or is it bodgy?

by the way when I say spacers I mean to space out the interior door trim from the metal(inner skin) so that there is more space between the speaker and interior door trim.

Not sure exactly what you're asking, but yes, it's bad to have your speaker hitting something and the installer is a bonehead for telling you not to worry about it, have the spacers installed immediately and don't go back to him.
Speaker manufacturers state their max excursion for a reason, any installer with any common sense would make sure.

The guy is a very reputable installer and he has done a good job with everything except this, so I am a bit shocked that this situation has happened.

The excursion in the book is 1 inch it seems.

I have 2 questions:

Is fitting these spacers considered as something that shouldn't be done or wont last? I mean should the door trim be customized instead, or is fitting spaces acceptable practice for professional installations?

And what is the likelyness that my speakers have been damaged? They are JL ZRs its made of Mineral-filled polypropylene, so I guess it may be cracked.

a couple of hits shouldn't hurt them too badly, you should be able to see any dammage that may be there.
fitting spacers is normal and often necessary, it's not the need for spacers that concerns me, it's the fact that the installer let the car leave the shop that way then said "don't worry about it"
