Hi. First I was looking around for resin and fiberglass mats, there is so many kinds, what will be best to use for speaker pods and sub boxes? I will probably get my stuff from Composites Canada since its the closest place (is it the cheapest among all popular stores?- Home Hardware/Canadian tire??)...
Also I will be molding my whole trunk, will i need different type or resin? And should i use filler? (I will think with filler will be easiest way since i want to fiberglass the sides and top of my trunk as well...
Also any advice about working with that stuff will be greatly appreciated... how to make a surface smooth, and mounting tips etc etc (I was working with small amount b4 so i know the basics- gloves and baby powder so i wont be itching)
I get my stuff from MF composites in montreal who is now also Freeman Supply. Canadian tire, home depot all those types of stores are isntalely high price for fibgerglass supplies.
My advice to you would be to spend as much time trolling the internet for ideas and information.
What you want is just GP resin and depensing that are doing, you might not even need any actual fiberglass, just resin an fleece. For subwoofer enslosures you will need some fiberglass mat for reinforcement.

I was going to use bed sheets or something old around the house- i was told that if it absorbs the resin, its good.... also im located Brantford/Guelph Ontario... and GP meaning- polyester resin?

To get the moulded look an curves into everything you need stretchy material. Oldschool guys still swear by speaker grill cloth to get the forms, but it doesn't hold much resin. All the newschool guys like meself use Fleece. Stretches like crazy and soaks up resin good so you have a solid first layer to work with. Just using contton or polyester sheets won't really add any strength.
Most of the strength on a panel is in it curves. straighter or longer spans need more reinforcement.
and GP just means General Purpose Resin. good ole run of the mill polyester resin

Polyester resin is good.
Bed sheets are fine to get your initial shape to build upon. To get strength (in a flat panel) you either need thickness or you have to add ribbing.
Mat is great for building thickness in very few layers as it holds a lot of resin.
Perfect... well im making molds for 6.5" for my door and 8" in the center (curved box- that's my idea- how it will work out we will see lol).... and the trunk im molding sides- probably curved and same with the top(bottom of the panel with 6x9's)....
Unlike here, don't go in there asking questions and knowing it all. Just "search", all the answers and tips are already there and easy to find.
Lol i wont do that since i dont know ANYTHING about it, sometimes i disagree here cuz i know some stuff about it, I like to discuss stuff, its not an argument really imo.... and thnx for the link...

Whether you need filler or not depends on how good you are at glassing and what your choice of covering material will be.
I will probably prime it and paint it with dupli color... or suede it... i have a lot of suede so gotta use it lol....
Thanks for the help guys..
