Boat Audio Installation

Hey guys,

Just had a few questions about Boat/Marine audio installations, I am 100% Familiar with audio installs in cars, and know how to wire Decks, and speakers/Amp/sub combos.

Just curious as to if regular cd Deck's out of a car/truck can be wired into a boat, the question I'm asking isn't "Can i install it?" because i already know it's possible, what i'm trying to get at is, "Is it safe?"

Also, are regular car speakers safe to use?

I just got a boat, and im going to install my Type S componants into it. I don't see a problem with doing it, Just want your opionions on it.

Also one more question, Wiring subs into a boat.. i know it seems "Stupid" but i wanna do it. Lol. What im asking about that is, can i use standard 1/0 AWG power wire, or do i need some sort of "Water Proof" power wire.

Thanks guys,

Input Appreciated.

- Kris

You can use normal car audio provided they are not going to come in contact with water. If there is even a slight chance of them getting wet, you might want to think about marine speakers. Make sure the amp(s) are well sealed away from water. DON'T forget to fuse.

Good luck!

the wood you use to make sub enclosures and speaker boxes are going to need to be waterproof (high humidity and there will be some water getting in the boat) look online and you can see the horrors of improper jobs in boats.

Regular wire will work. I've never heard of any sort of special wire for marine use.
