the fuse at the battery blew tonight when I had things cranked up high

60 Amp AGU fuse

using 4ga wire

what do I do? replacing it with another will just delay things until it happens again

What are the fuses rated at on your amp and how many are there? Add all of those together and that is the size of fuse you will need. At least that is how I was told to do it. So correct me if I am wrong guys.

ya that theory could be wrong, its the power wire your protecting

even if it is right, I can't figure out the fuse size of the JL 500/1, it has no fuses as far as I can see
mtx 4244, 30A fuse
Blaupunkt PA275 40A fuse

4awg wire can handle up to about 125 amps. So use any fuse lower than that. I think you'll need to go to an ANL fuse holder as the largest commonly available AGU fuse is 60 amps, with some 80 amps around (not common).

^ Yep - I would change over to an ANL style fuse.

what size of ANL fuse should I have?

just called FX Audio to see what they have, they suggest I go with something they are calling "waffer" fuse and a 150 A fuse.

it appears that you have about 850 watts rms. So 850 x2 (50% efficiency)=1700 watts total draw / 13.8 volts=123 amps. I think a 100 amp ANL should be fine as they tend to allow 10-20% over current for some time before blowing. Also, the 50% efficiency may be a little conservative for those amps, so your system would not pull as much current(at 60% eff. it would pull 102 amps). Go with a 100 amp ANL.

Put one in my wife's van for the exact same reason.....if she does pop it I'll know she's been crankin' it again.....

And she complains I turn it up too much when we go out in it.....
