I have a set of MB Quart 5 1/4" Component speakers (Premium model) that has the capability to be either installed as a separate tweeter and mid, or as a coxial type setup

Question is, I have an Acura 2.3CL. Would it be better to run both speakers in the door as a coaxial type setup? or run the mids in the door and the tweeter in the stock location on the dash?

Kick panels and crazy fiberglass pods are out of the question. Any suggestions?

thanks

In my experience, separate mounting yields better sound due to flexibility of mounting. You can decide where it sounds best.

using them as a coaxial set would kind of defeat the purpose of buying separates (hint hint... gotta keep em separated)

thanks for all the responses, greatly appreciated

reading up, some say separating them is good as it brings the soundstage up higher, then others say they should be mounted together so all the sound is coming from one place, and that anything over (insert distance here) will affect the aligning of the planets thus not sounding good LOL

Yeah, that's why you have to use YOUR ears, and decide what sounds best to YOU. The two sided tape idea is great for that.

I have a similar set-up and I find there is too much separation between the highs and the mids. I find that mounting the tweeter close to the mid-bass driver is best. Like everyone else is saying - try everything and do what sounds best or is most convenvient if the benefits of convenience outweighs the costs of mounting everything in the "perfect" location.

i would look at what speaker i have and ask "what is this speaker made for ?what set up? "
so speakers are made for a typ of set up like focal 52 tweeters like the a piller amed off the glass

Attache some long wires to the tweeters and get some of that stiky caulking tape (called dumdum?) available at home depot. Then use it to temporarily stick the tweets in different places: Doors, Dash: facing up, cross firing, front firing etc. Listen for a few days on each setup before deciding.
