Ive just installed my new sub to my current setup, i now have a pioneer DEH-P6500r HU, pioneer 6by9s n an alpine type r 12" subwoofer with a alpine MRD-605 amplifier.

There are lots of settings on the amplifier but i dont no wat to set them to n wat is right for my system so that nothin is overloaded n nothin is likely to stop working.

Wen i first tried my sub it sounded gd but ive fiddled with the settings n there seems to be a porr basslien now

I have (on the amp) a
1) Crossover frequency adjustment Knob - from 30 - 200Hz. Wat shud i set it on?
2)lowpass filter slope selector switch - 12dB/oct or 24dB/oct. wat shud this be on?
3) Subsonic mode selector switch - off or 15Hz????
4)The input level (gain) - 0.1V-8V (my HU is 2.2V) so wat shud i have this set to???

if you have a sealed box, turn the subsonic off, if you have a ported you probably want it on
Low pass crossover 30 - 200Hz should be set low enough so that you dont hear voices coming from the sub.
As for gain, set your volume to 3/4 and keep turning the gain up untill you start to hear slight distortion. Leave it there.
As for slope either one will be fine

It would be nice if you type proper english...Unfortunately, I am not in tune with those lingos you're using...

my sub is in a ported box specifically made for that alpine box. My 6by9s arent amped so wat shud the settings be???

Try this..... adjust the x-over point to approx 70-90hz, set the slope to 24db/octave and leave the subsonic filter off and set the gain to about 1 volt. (*unknown factor 6x9 speaker efficiency vs sub)

now, close the doors & window up. listen to a recording that has good subbass output around 25-45hz...... then flick on the 15hz filter and see if it improve the transient response without losing the very bottom of bass extension. (usually 15hz is not too bad if it has a 18-24db/octave roll off.)
and leave it on if it's an improvement.

thanks for your help mate. The only worry i have is that if i set the gain to 1.0V will this overpower my amp or sub or damage them, as my headunit has a preout max output level of 2.2V. Or has the voltage on my headunit got nothing at all to do with what i should set the gain to????

I think you'll be fine setting your gain to 2v on your amp matching your HU voltage to the input voltage on your amp... setting it to 1v will not damage anything, setting the gain above 2v will introduce distortion into the amp... when it comes to a sub amp i usually match my HU voltage to the amp... and for my incar speakers I usually set the gain lower as high frequencies dont require much power to be too much for the ears..

the only problem is that on the amp is that if you wanant to set it at 2.2V to match the headunit, the amp cannot be set tot hat it can only go on 2.5V or 1.5V, that's the closest to 2.2V you can get.
so wat do i do????

how can i find out wat the correct gain is for my amp to power the sub. where can i get hold of this information?
